  • Deficit budget reign in JHADC for five consecutive years from 2019-20 to 2023-24

    The huge drops in the shares of royalty from coals arising from the ban of coal mining in Meghalaya from 2014 and the inability of the Executive Committee to explore alternate avenues to generate funds led to severe financial scarcity in the Jaintia Hills Autonomous District Council (JHADC) resulting in presentation of deficit budget for five consecutive financial years from 2019 to 2023.

    The Council passed a deficit budget of Rs. 19.99 crore for the financial year 2019-20 for the proposed Budget Estimates for the ensuing Financial Year bear an estimated receipt of Rs 148, 67, 41, 200.00 (Rupees One hundred Forty-Eight Crore Sixty-Seven Lakh Forty-One Thousand Two Hundred) only against the estimated expenditure of Rs 168, 67, 37, 500. 00 (Rupees One Hundred Sixty-Eight Crore Sixty-Seven Lakh Thirty-Seven Thousand Five Hundred) only.

    Again on 2020-21 the JHADC passed a Rs 17.89 crore deficit budget for 2020-2021 where the proposed budget estimates for the ensuing financial year 2020-21 bear an estimated receipts of Rs 155.20 crore as against the estimated expenditure of Rs. 173.18 crore casting a deficit of Rs. 17.89 crore.

    During the year 2021-22 the Council passed a deficit budget of Rs.13.15 crore where the estimated receipts is Rs 173,50,30,000 while the estimated expenditures come to Rs 186,65,21,300.

    For the fourth consecutive year, the Council passed deficit budget for the financial year 2022-23 of Rs. 12.89 crores for the estimated expenditure of the Council are Rs. 204, 94, 48, 300.00 while the estimated receipt of the Council is Rs. 192, 05, 16,000.00 crores.

    In the financial 2023-24, the Council placed a deficit budget of Rs. 30,60,14,100/- (Rupees Thirty Crore Sixty Lakh Fourteen Thousand One Hundred) bearing an Estimates Receipt of Rs. 174,59,38,400/- (Rupees One Hundred Seventy-Four Crore Fifty-Nine Lakh Thirty-Eight Thousand Four Hundred) only as against the Estimate Expenditures of Rs. 205,19,52,500 (Rupees Two Hundred Five Crore Nineteen Lakh Fifty-Two Thousand Five Hundred).
