Decision on holding of 3 ADC elections under process: Tynsong
Deputy Chief Minister in-charge District Council Affairs (DCA) Prestone Tynsong on Wednesday said that matter pertaining to holding elections of the three autonomous district councils (ADCs) is under process.
According to him, the probable dates for the ADC elections is also under process.
Currently, the tenures of the two ADCs in Khasi and Jaintia Hills is being extended for a period of six months, which will expired on September 5.
On the need to allow use of local language during swearing in for the new ADCs, Tynsong said in his reply tabled in the Assembly that Rule 37 of the Assam and Meghalaya Autonomous Districts (Constitution of District Councils) Rules, 1951 (Amended) provides that a member may address the Council in any of the languages spoken in the area over which the District Council exercises jurisdiction or in any recognized language of the State.
