  • DC Jowai & DC Hamren meets on Wednesday to diffuse tension in Block -I

    In order to diffuse the tension brewing in Block-I an area of dispute between Assam and Meghalaya, Deputy Commissioner West Jaintia Hills District B S Sohliya has convene a DC level meeting with his counterpart from West Karbi Anglong District on Wednesday in DC’s Office, Jowai.

    This was informed by Sohliya in a meeting with HBDRF Chairman Chandame Sungoh and two others on Monday.

    Sungoh met Sohliya to apprise him on infringement by the Karbi people of Moothade village to the farming fields belonging to Pnar people of Moojem village and both villages falls under Block-I.

    Sungoh through a petition signed by him and Moojem secretary N Sten informed the Deputy Commissioner that the Karbi people planted brooms and betel nuts in their farming fields so in fist of anger and to protect their lands they went and destoryed whatever planted by Karbi people on Saturday.

    The HBDRF Chairman said that the Karbi people took up the action of the Pnar people with the Assam police and the latter instructed the Pnar people to come to Mukoilum Outpost.

    The Deputy Commissioner told Sungoh and others that Border Magistrate Dr B Niang is already in Moojem to assess the matter.

    Sohliya also said that he has convene a DC level meeting with his counterpart from West Karbi Anglong District on Wednesday in his office. The meeting will also be attended by SP of both districts and KAAC officers.
