Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong said that the much-awaited vaccine against COVID-19 does not fall under the coverage of the government’s Megha Health Insurance Scheme (MHIS).

Speaking to reporters on Tuesday, Tynsong however said that the state government will take a call on the matter when the time comes.

“Let us see when the time comes as right now the vaccine is not even in place,” he said.

Tynsong further informed that as per communication from the government of India, the vaccine may be made available to the state by January, next year.

“The first phase of the vaccination programme will be focused only for the frontliners and health workers around 20,000 to 25,000 and this will be given to them free of cost as committed by the government of India,” he said.
