  • COVID-19: Meghalaya Govt lifts total lockdown in Shillong

    The state government has decided to lift the total lockdown impose in Shillong agglomeration from Wednesday. 

    “We have decided not to continue with the lockdown. Therefore, the lockdown will temporarily be lifted from tomorrow,” Deputy Chief Minister  Prestone Tynsong told reporters after the daily review meeting held on Tuesday.

    Asked, Tynsong said that the decision was taken after inputs have been received from the health department that contact tracing in connection with the wedding party and NEIGRIHMS are concerned has been completed. 

    COVID-19 cases in Meghalaya rose to 273

    “Therefore, lockdown at this point of time is not necessary,” he said.

    According to him, 198 people have been identified as high risk contacts of the wedding attendees and postive patients at NEIGRIHMS. 

    It may be mentioned here that the deputy commissioner of East Khasi Hills Matsiewdor War Nongbri had filed an FIR against 41 wedding attendees based on the government’s direction.
