COVID-19 Containment Measures extended in West Jaintia Hills
The District Magistrate, West Jaintia Hills on Saturday has extended the Containment Measures in the entire District with immediate effect and until further order to safeguard the citizens of the District from the uncontrollable surge of Covid-19 cases.
As per the order all educational, training, coaching institutions etc. shall remain closed within West Jaintia Hills District. However, during this period all institutions shall maintain the online classes. Political, public, social and religious gatherings including conference, meetings and training, weddings are not permitted
Funeral gatherings are restricted to 10 persons with prior permission of the Deputy Commissioner/ Sub-Divisional Officer (Civil) Amlarem.
Entry of Tourists from outside the State shall not be permitted and all tourist spots shall remain closed.
All weekly markets, Places of religious worship shall remain closed.
Inter-State movement of persons continues to be restricted. However this shall not apply for transit vehicles of Assam/ Tripura/ Manipur/ Mizoram. All Transit Vehicles are not permitted to park in any inhabited Villages along the National Highway NH-06 (old name NH-44) under the jurisdiction of West Jaintia Hills District, Meghalaya.
Inter State and Inter-District or Intra-District movement is restricted, except for those who are permitted. For any other travel of an essential or emergent nature, the citizens are advised to apply for the ‘EPASS ‘ from the District portal: megedistrict.gov.in
The order discouraged all non-essential movement. Those violating the movement protocol or furnishing false self-declaration shall be liable for penal action as per law.
Permitted activities
The order allows 50% of shops to open at Iawmusiang, CNI Market, lawchyiap (JPC Market), Iaw Seinraj and Iawthymme, Ladthalaboh, Jowai to be strictly followed and regulated by the Market Committees between 9.00 AM to 4.00 PM.

Not to allow selling of any kind of items in the footpaths, to appoint sufficient number of Officials/ Staff/ Volunteers to implement mandatory wearing of Masks and physical distancing, to place Washing Basin with running water in the Market area.
Failure to strictly regulate and implement the direction above shall result in closure of the shop/ market without prior notice.
50% of shops are permitted to open at Temporary Vending Zones Iaw Sein Raij , Iawmusiang, Iawchyiap (JPC market) Chutwakhu and MTC Parking lot, Iawmusiang between 9.00 Am to 4.00 Pm.

The District Magistrate has directed the Market Committee/ Town Vending Committee to implement the following steps:
To appoint sufficient number of Officials/ Staff/ Volunteers to implement mandatory wearing of Masks and physical distancing, to place Washing Basin with running water in the Market area. Selling any kind of item in the footpaths is prohibited; action shall be taken against violators. The Vendors identified by the Town Vending Committee are to contact the Market Committee for allotment of space. The District urban planner cum Secretary, Town Vending Committee shall furnish name of street vendors to the Market Committee / Chief Executive Officer, Jowai Municipal Board
Failure to strictly regulate and implement the direction above shall result in closure of the shop/ market without prior notice.
Opening of essential (Retail) shops strictly in respective localities outside the Containment zone/ areas from Monday to Friday between 9.00 Am to 4.00 Pm.
The Lay –By Market Ialong is permitted to open on Odd/ even numbers from Monday to Friday from 9.00 AM to 4.00 PM subject to strictly following the SOP of the Lay-by Market committee. Vehicles for transportation of vegetables are not allowed to enter Jowai Town.
Opening of Hardware and Sawn Timber shops in Green Villages (with no active cases) from Monday to Friday between 9.00 AM to 4.00 PM.
Hotel/ eateries/ tea shops shall work on take away basis. No sit in dining allowed.
Construction activities including road construction etc by strict maintaining of Covid Protocols.
Banks and Banking Services, Post & Telegraph and Telecommunication Services with limited staff.
Courier Services are permitted subject to strict compliance of Covid Protocols.
Private offices are allowed to function thrice a week subject to prior permission from the Deputy Commissioner/ Sub-Divisional Officer (Civil) Amlarem.
Central and Government Offices may function at 30% strength except essential Department of the State Government to function at full strength.
Shops dealing with Agriculture Machineries Spare Parts, Seeds, Bio Fertilizers etc are allowed to open from Monday to Friday between 9.00 AM to 4.00 PM with prior permission of the Deputy Commissioner/ Sub-Divisional Officer (Civil) Amlarem.
Steel Fabrication, Automobile Workshop and Automobile Spare Parts shops on need basis are permitted to open from Monday to Friday between 9.00 AM to 4.00 PM with prior permission of the Deputy Commissioner/ Sub-Divisional Officer (Civil) Amlarem
Farming activities including betel nut and betel leaves and MGNREGA in Green Rural Areas/outside containment areas. Essential veterinary services including feed and fodder movement for livestock of farmers.
DRDA and C&RD Block to function with limited staff.
The order has allowed movement of Public transport with 1/4 of the existing capacity for movement of persons from 9.00 am to 4.00 Pm.

Apart from the vehicles above, no private vehicles are permitted to ply on the road except those with ePASS issued from the Deputy Commissioner of the District.
Suspension of operation of Border Trade through Tamabil ICP Amlarem Sub-division is lifted subject to compliance with the SOPs and other protocols issued by the Health and Family Welfare and the Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India.
Salon, Beauty palour, archery, teer counter allowed to open from Monday to Thursday from 9.00 Am to 4.00 Pm and to strictly follow the health protocols.
Movement only for the following purposes is permitted on self-declaration/ Official ID duly issued by the concerned authorities to be produced if and when necessary and subject to adherence to protocols:-
Health care services, including emergency services and vaccination, Agriculture and Veterinary Services.
Transportation of Essential items, Goods Vehicles, E-Commerce Services, Supply of Medicines and Pharmaceuticals, Home Delivery Services, Accredited/ Registered Press Personnel (Print and Electronic)
Persons engaged in construction activities
Persons travelling on Essential Government Duty viz;
Medical Teams and officials on COVID-19 Duty, Police Security and Armed Forces, Civil Defence and Home Guards, Fire and Emergency Services. MeECL (NEEPCO), Power Grid, etc). Water Supply (PHE) including Private Water Supply, Roads and Buildings (PWD, NHAI, NHIDCL, etc) , Municipal Services, Food Corporation of India, Information and Public Relations. Banks, Post & Telegraph and Telecommunication Services, Petrol and Diesel Tankers including LPG home delivery. People having vaccination schedules to the vaccination centre , JHADC with minimal staff, DRDA and C&RD Blocks.
The District Magistrate has instructed the Citizens to restrict themselves within their respective places in order to contain the further spread of Covid-19 cases.
All permitted activities are subject to strict compliance to these guidelines and the social distancing protocols issued by the Health & Family welfare Department, Government of Meghalaya.
The Corona Curfew from 5.00 PM to 5.00 AM from Monday to Friday.
Weekend lockdown on Saturday and Sunday in the entire District with exemption for essential goods transport & emergency.
The District Magistrate has further directed the public to continue wearing Face Mask/ Covering mouth and nose when moving around and not to spit & smoke in the public place including shops and work places. Any violation penalty will be imposed on violators by the Designated Officers who have been empowered under section 2 of the Epidemic Diseases Act, 1897.
