Court sentenced rape accused to 10 years rigorous imprisonment in West Jaintia Hills

The Court of Session Judge, West Jaintia Hills on April 8 has sentenced Riang Najiar to 10 years rigorous imprisonment with fine of Rs 5000 for a rape in 2008.

The Court also ordered a compensation of Rs.3,00,000/- to the victim.

According to prosecution on December 13, 2008, the victim’s family lodged an FIR in Jowai Police Station, a case was registered at Jowai Police Station case No 155(12) 2008 under U/s 376 IPC and the investigation was conducted by WPSI O.Tyngkan.

After the investigation, the officer of the case filed a charge sheet against the accused person, Riang Najiar, under U/S 376/511 IPC.

Riang Najiar, who stood trial in Session case 148/2015, was found guilty by the Court of Session Judge, West Jaintia Hills District and convicted for an offence under section 376 (2)(f) IPC.
