The opposition Congress on Wednesday asked the people of Nongkrem constituency to reject the NPP candidate.

Addressing media persons, Congress leader Ronnie V Lyngdoh lauded the people of Nongkrem for their courage to stand up against inducement and allurement. He was referring to the complaint lodged against cabinet minister Dasakhiatbha Lamare for allegedly distributing money to the people of the constituency.

“I laud the people of Nongkrem and I urge if you want good governance, reject such people as we need lawmakers not money distributors,” Lyngdoh said.

When asked on the delay by the authority concerned to take action against the matter, the Congress leader however said, “In as far as action is concerned, I think the model code of conduct is yet to enforce, I don’t know to what extent the law is applicable but the people should take the law in their own hands (not to hurt anyone) but to reject such people. Let the people of Nongkrem be an example to the people of other constituencies.”

On the other hand, Lyngdoh said that the FOCUS and FOCUS+ schemes are not NPP programmes but are government programmes. He however slammed the MDA government for realizing that they need to help the people just before the elections just to get votes.

He further said that the NPP is also desperate to come back to power by allegedly involving their candidates in the distribution of government schemes.

He cited, “In Pynthorumkhrah, a person who is yet to be an MLA but is only an NPP candidate is distributing schemes. Where is the MLA? This shows that they are desperate to win.”
