Cong slams MDA govt over delay to implement anti-influx MRSSA
The opposition Congress has slammed the National People’s Party (NPP)-led Meghalaya Democratic Alliance government for its failure to implement the Meghalaya Residents Safety and Security Act (MRSSA).
“The Congress has passed the MRSSA (in 2016) and it is only left to be implemented which this present government is not willing to do so,” former MPCC chief Dr Celestine Lyngdoh said.
According to him, if the MRSSA is implemented the isse of influx will be automatically resolved in the state. When asked, Lyngdoh said the Inner Line Permit (ILP) is also one of the agendas to be highlighted in the party’s manifesto for the upcoming 2023 Assembly elections.
He however said ILP is also a subject which has to be agreed on by the central government.
“If ILP can be issued by the government of Meghalaya I think the Congress government would have done it much earlier. So sincerely we will look into it,” the Congress leader said.
“In fact the previous government has passed a resolution in the Assembly and even the present government has passed a resolution but till now we have not been able to convinced the central government,” he added.
