CNE Conference on Adolescence Health
JOWAI: The Jowai Civil Hospital DM&HO, Jowai CNE (Continuing Nursing Education) Cell organized the first ever local CNE conference on Adolescence Health for the registered nurse at Orchid Inn today on the theme: “Adolescent Health Care : Opening Window of Opportunity for Healthy and Positive Development of Adolescents”.
The Inaugural function was attended by Dr. R Pohrmen, Medical Superintendent Jowai Civil Hospital, Ialong. Speaking at the inaugural of the conference Dr. Rita congratulated the organizers and nursing committee for organizing the first ever Local conference on Adolescence a relevant and important topic in today’s time which needs to be address and discuss more often.
She further stress on the need to, as the world has now more young people than ever before, out of 7.3 billion people worldwide 1.2 billion people are adolescent and India has the largest population of adolescent in the world, about 22 % of the Indian population belongs to the adolescent so also in Meghalaya and there is a need to cater more information and knowledge about adolescent to able to guide them in a proper way.
The adolescents of today are very knowledgeable but they lack awareness about the physical and psychological changes that occur during the adolescent stage and about the real health affecting them. She said, many of the serious disease in adulthoods have their roots in adolescent and the main health issues that adolescent faces includes mental health which is a serious issue and needs to address seriously, other issue include early pregnancy and child birth, HIV infection, sexual transmitted disease, malnutrition, violence and substance abuse. All these issues are preventable and treatable if we as parents, family members, teachers, health provider and even media give extra care and play our role in positive way, supporting them to grow healthy mentally and physically. She further said conference as such will help the nursing folks to get more knowledge and thus further strengthen their way of approaching and delivering their health care service.
Ms. Annie VBR Chullet, organizing secretary JCH DM&HO, Jowai CNE Cell, S/N Jowai Civil Hospital in her short speech informed that the purpose of the conference is to enhance the knowledge of nurses especially with health care towards adolescents which is need of the hour. She further briefed on the objectives of the days topic that would be dwelt with the key concept in adolescence health and health care, highlighting key challenges and barriers in adolescent health at different health centres and mechanisms to put adolescent as key players in protection of their own health and prevent premature death in this age group.
Latter in the second session, Dr. E War spoke on Anatomical and Physiological changes, general health risk and health problem during adolescents. Dr. SD Sumer on ‘Reproductive Health for Adolescent”, Dr. A Hinge on Preventive Health Services for Adolescent in the Community, Dr. R Pohsnem- Barriers to accessing health care among adolescents and quality of care for adolescent including AA-HA, Mrs. TS Sutnga- Juvenile Justice Act, Smt. T Nongkhlaw-Psychology and behavioural changes, mental health problem and health risk adolescent and Smt. D.H Lyngba on Nursing Management of common Health Problem for adolescents.
Earlier the dignitaries, resource persons, the doctors and nurses were welcomed by Mrs. Schika Lato and the Vote of thanks was offered by Mrs. B, Syngkon, S/N Jowai Civil Hospital, Ialong.
