Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma on Tuesday lauded the Centre’s decision to release over Rs 1000 crore in terms of devolution of taxes for the state of Meghalaya.

“I would like to thank the government of India for releasing over 1000 crores in terms of the devolution of taxes which are actually the many developmental and social programs that we have,” Sangma said.

“This is a great gesture by the Prime Minister and Finance Minister and it is a great way to start a new government,” he remarked.

He further added, “…why this is significant is the government has released two instalments of the devolution of the taxes, which was meant for different states. So, every month, we normally get one, instalment, but the government of India in one way has given a bonus to every state by releasing two instalments. So this will not be taken away from the future instalments, but these are basically a bonus and double benefit which has been given.”
