    A bike rider died on the spot while a pillion rider was seriously injured after they were hit by the escort vehicle of Home Minister Lahkmen Rymbui’s convoy on Thursday.

    The incident took place at Khera in East Garo Hills district during the movement of home minister from Rongjeng to Williamnagar, police said.

    One Joachim Marak (45) of Dimit Rongtat a bike rider clash head on with the police escort vehicle following the carcade and died on the spot.

    One of the pillion rider Marchim M Sangma (37) of Dimit Rongtat was also injured in the accident who was shifted to Williamnagar civil hospital, they said.

    Home Minister Lahkmen Rymbui on Thursday visited East Garo Hills and reviewed the law and order for two districts in the presence of DIG Western Range Anurag Kumar and SPs of East and South Garo Hills.

    Rymbui inspected the model college at Rongjeng and Williamnagar government college construction. He also visited 5th Battalion at Samanda and proceeded to Tura.

    Police have registered a UD case following the incident. Post mortem has been completed and the dead body has been handed over to the family.
