BSF seized 60 cattle worth Rs 21 lakh
The Border Security Force (BSF) has seized 60 cattle worth Rs 21 lakh from different areas along the international border with Bangladesh.
According to the BSF statement, there is steep incline in smuggling attempts after revocation of lockdown in the state.
It said the smugglers are continuing their daring bids to cross over the cattle to Bangladesh to compensate the pecuniary losses incurred during the lockdown.
In another incident, one Indian national apprehended at Sonapur Bridge near Umkiang with a truck carrying cattle in cruel manner and without any valid document. Although, his accomplice managed to escape from the spot.
Generally, cattle smugglers kept these cattle in thick forest for some time and on appropriate opportunity, try to make them cross into Bangladesh taking advantage of vulnerable patches through unfenced Border, BSF said.
The alert and vigil sentinels are keep on foiling their attempts time to time.
In view of increasing smuggling attempts BSF has intensified its vigil and operations on the Indo-Bangladesh Border to prevent the nefarious design of trans- border criminals, it said.
