BJP urges Meghalaya to vote for a ‘double engine govt’ in 2023, says stand on ILP to reflect in manifesto to be released in January
BJP national secretary Rituraj Sinha on Monday launched the party’s membership drive. He said it is time for Meghalaya to consider a ‘double engine government’ in 2023.
Addressing media persons, Sinha said, “I am proud to announce the launch of the BJP membership drive in Meghalaya with a slogan ‘Modi for development, BJP for Meghalaya’.”
He said the membership drive is a completely digital process where people can just dial and give a missed call to 8360006060 for joining the party as its members.
Sinha urged the people of Meghalaya to vote for a ‘double engine government’.
“As BJP we believe that Meghalaya has tried many options. It is now time for Meghalaya to consider a double-engine government, a government of BJP in Centre with a government of BJP in the state of Meghalaya. A double engine sarkar will fast track the growth and development works in Meghalaya. Therefore, we are preparing to contest elections in all the 60 constituencies,” he said.
The BJP leader said, “Looking at the development works that are happening in your neighbouring state in the last six years in Assam one feels pain that why we cannot do more in the state of Meghalaya and for the people of Meghalaya.”
He said Meghalaya deserves better health care facilities, education facilities and others.
“Meghalaya is still suffering from power cuts and electricity issues. Meghalaya still in many interior parts the road connectivity is not as good as it should be in a developed state. There are lots of areas where Meghalaya deserves better. This development can only happen with the support from the central government and support from Modi sarkar in Delhi,” he added.
Meanwhile, Sinha said, “As regards to the ILP and other such issues, we are happy to discuss all these issues. We have to look at the pros and the cons as Meghalaya is a state which is heavily dependent on tourists. There are implications of ILP on tourism and tourism directly impacts job creation and earning of people of Meghalaya also.”
“Yes, we understand that the culture of Meghalaya has to be protected, the people and their way of life have to be protected but at the same time, we need to also balance that with the development and aspiration of the people of the state. So BJP is actively considering and we will bring out more clarity on this matter during our manifesto announcement,” he assured.
He further stated that there is no dispute or doubts in anyone’s mind that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has converted the Look East policy of the Congress government in the past to Act East Policy.
“The financial resources committed for infrastructure in the North East have more than doubled in the last 8 years whether it is highways, whether it is rail connectivity, whether it is airports – so much has happened in different parts of the North East. Similarly all the benefit schemes of the poor, they are being spread whether it is free home or free gas, electricity connection, water connection, all these schemes have been drawn,” he said.
Further, the BJP leader said that the party will decide at the right time on whether to pull out of the NPP-led MDA government following the corruption allegations from several quarters.
“Political strategy is not a matter to be discussed with the press. The party will decide and in the right time we will make the announcement,” he said.
