Attempt to disrupt Durga Puja through inciting statements fails as Puja culminated peacefully in Meghalaya
Durga Puja Festival epitomizes the victory of good over evil; this year the force of evil could be attributed to the attempt of disrupting the peaceful atmosphere of State of Meghalaya by inciting and instigating the local youths from some self-interest and self-vested persons were defeated by the goodness and broadness of the people of the State as the Durga Puja culminated peacefully.
Along with the rest of the world, the Hindu community of the State joined hand in celebrating Durga Puja from Thursday last in all parts of the State with all rites and rituality by adhering strictly to protocol of COVID-19.
In West Jaintia Hills District, the festivities in the famous Durga Mandir located at Nartiang Village were confined to the residents of the Village only as to prevent any spread of COVID-19 and several Hindu faithful from Shillong and other parts of the State returned empty handed as they were not allowed to visit the Durga Mandir.
Altogether, 37 goats were sacrificed by 26 years old Pandit Oni Maskut Deshmukh in Durga Mandir while another 17 were sacrificed at Shiv Mandir, Nartiang on Sunday. Later in the evening, around 200 devotees lined up to offer their offering to Lord Shiv at Shiv Mandir which was followed by the sacrificial ceremony of the goats.
After conduct of all rituals, the Goddess Durga which depicted in the forms of decked up plantain tree were immersed at River Myntang, Nartiang on Monday afternoon.
While, in Jowai the district headquarter, the immersion of Goddess Durga which was also depicted in the form of decked up plantain tree of the Shiv Mandir, Jowai was completed at around 1.30 pm at River Myntdu, near Syntu Ksiar.
The Durga Puja festival culminated peacefully in Dawki along Indo-Bangladesh Border where the Goddess Durga was immersed in River Umngot with all dignity and rituality.
In East Jaintia Hills District, there were as many as 10 places namely Ladrymbai, Umpleng, Sookilo, Khliehriat and in campus of Cement Plants, Lumshnong where Durga Puja was celebrated by the Hindu faithful peacefully and jovially with strict adhering to COVID-19’s protocol.
The tall allegation of some self-vested and self-interested persons that the Bengalis people living in Ichamati under Shella Police Station, East Khasi Hills were oppressed and exploited was proving wrong on Monday as the Durga Puja festival was celebrated with all pomp and gaiety by the Hindu community both local and Bengalis with the spirit of oneness and brotherhood. The festival ended with a good note with the immersion of Goddess Durga on Monday afternoon.
The Durga Puja festival also ended peacefully and with a spirit of reviving the communal oneness amongst the people of Shillong irrespective of faiths and communities and the strength to thwart any attempt of inciting and instigating from external forces for their vested interest.
With the peaceful immersion of Goddess Durga in River Wah Umkhrah Polo from all Puja Pandals of Shillong City on Monday afternoon come the end of the Durga Puja festival in the State of Meghalaya.
