The 2025-26 Assam state budget, presented by Finance Minister Ajanta Neog in the Assam Legislative Assembly on Monday, has been described as a reflection of Assam’s rapidly developing economy.

Welcoming the budget, Assam BJP president and MP Dilip Saikia expressed gratitude to Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma for taking several welfare initiatives that benefit all sections of society. He hailed the budget as people-centric and public welfare-oriented, aligning with the BJP’s core ideology of serving the common people. Saikia described the budget as a comprehensive and inclusive one that will provide relief and support to the general public.

In an official statement sent to the media, Saikia highlighted Assam’s rapid economic growth over the past decade . He pointed out that Assam’s Gross State Domestic Product (GSDP) had risen significantly from Rs 2,27,959 crore in 2015-16 to Rs 6,43,667 crore in 2024-25. During this period, per capita income also saw a notable increase from Rs 60,817 in 2015-16 to Rs 1,54,222 in 2024-25 .

He said doubling the number of female students covered under this initiative compared to the previous year.

He also mentioned the expansion to cover 37.2 lakh women, wage Increase: Salary increments for ASHA and Anganwadi workers, one-time financial assistance of Rs 5,000 for 6.8 lakh tea garden workers and financial aid to 25,000 Namghars (Assamese prayer halls).

The BJP state president highlighted that without imposing any additional taxes on citizens, the Rs 1,55,428.75 crore budget effectively addresses Assam’s infrastructural growth and socio-economic progress. He criticized the previous Congress-led government for minimal capital expenditure in 2015-16, which hindered Assam’s development. In contrast, under BJP’s leadership, capital expenditure increased significantly, reaching Rs 24,964 crore in 2024-25 (until March 6). This year’s budget proposes further growth in capital expenditure to Rs 38,202.78 crore, marking a commendable step toward the state’s progress.

Saikia confidently asserted that under the leadership of Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma and the BJP-led coalition government, Assam will soon emerge as a prosperous and leading state in India, as reflected in the proposed budget.
