ASPF holds fourth meeting to push for Tura as Meghalaya’s winter capital

The A•chik State Peoples’ Front (ASPF) organized its fourth public meeting advocating for the establishment of a winter capital in Tura. The event was held on March 15 at Rongrenggre playground in Williamnagar, East Garo Hills, Meghalaya, drawing a significant number of attendees from the region.
Representatives from various organizations, including the A•chik Progressive Approach (APA), Garo Hills Enlightenment Society (GES), and Williamnagar Auto & Pick-Up Association, participated in the meeting, demonstrating strong local support for the proposal.
In her address, Advocate Bernita Marak, general secretary of ASPF, explained the importance and benefits of establishing a winter capital in Tura, emphasizing its potential to bring administrative convenience and economic growth to the region.
APA president Roger D. Shira pledged his organization’s unwavering support for the initiative, ensuring continued collaboration with leaders championing the cause.
GES president Slang Goera Marak praised the dedication of ASPF and the GaroLand State Movement Committee (GSMC) in advancing the demand. He also announced plans for a larger mobilization meeting across East Garo Hills District to further rally support.
Balkarin Ch. Marak, acting chairman of GSMC, revealed that the next public meeting will be held in North Garo Hills, signalling the movement’s expansion across the region.
The push for a winter capital in Tura continues to gain momentum, with growing public participation and strategic efforts to engage stakeholders across Meghalaya.
