The ASOM Alliance (Axom Sommilito Morcha), a coalition of regional and left parties in Assam, on Monday, condemned the attack on Congress MP Pradyut Bordoloi, MLA Sibamoni Bora, and NSUI national secretary Mohsin Khan in Dhing, Nagaon district.

In a joint statement, ASOM Alliance president and MP Ajit Kumar Bhuyan and general secretary Lurinjyoti Gogoi held the BJP government, led by Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, directly responsible for fostering a culture of political violence in Assam.

“Assam’s political history has been one of rivalry and friendship, not enmity,” the leaders said. “The culture of treating opponents as enemies, common in states like Bihar and Uttar Pradesh, has now been imported into Assam by the BJP under Himanta Biswa Sarma,” they said.

The ASOM leaders alleged that the Chief Minister and Assam Police have encouraged political intolerance, allowing incidents of violence to escalate unchecked. They criticized the government’s failure to take strong action after earlier episodes, warning that political vendetta is becoming normalized.

“By attempting to justify or subtly incite such incidents, the Chief Minister exposes the hidden political motives behind these attacks,” the statement said.

The ASOM Alliance demanded the immediate arrest of all those responsible for the Dhing attack to prevent further escalation of political violence in the state.

The alliance, originally formed in September 2021 to unite regional and left-wing forces against the BJP, once included the Congress party. Though Congress had withdrawn during the Behali Assembly bye-election, ASOM leaders indicated that talks are underway for Congress to rejoin the alliance after the ongoing panchayat elections.
