Appeal from the DC to the General Public during Election
JOWAI: The Deputy Commissioner (election), West Jaintia Hills District, Jowai call upon the electors not to accept any cash, liquor, gift items or free food during this election process, if found both the person offering and accepting such bribe will be punished with imprisonment up to one year with a fine. Similarly undue influence at an election including threatening with injury, inducement of belief of divine displeasure or of spiritual censure/ impersonation of another voter are electoral offences punishable with imprisonment up to one 1(one) year or both.
The Deputy Commissioner has also informed that Flying Squads and surveillance teams have been formed to keep watch over such activities during election process.
Further, the Deputy Commissioner has informed that if found any member of the public carrying cash of above Rs. 50,000/- which is suspicious in nature and unaccounted for will be seized and due action will be taken.
