ACHIK organizes awareness on roster system, rally to demand winter capital
The Achik Conscious Holistically Integrated Krima (ACHIK) on Tuesday organized an awareness campaign on the implementation of the roster system and a rally to demand a winter capital in Garo Hills.
The rally cum awareness campaign held at Rongrenggre government secondary school, playground was backed by GSU Eastern Zone, WATA, AAYF, Williamnagar Government College Students’ Union, Loyola College Students’ Union, Mahindra Pik Up, Sumo, Maxi Cab and Tractor Association of Willimnagar.
Speaking on the occasion, the vice president Greneth M Sangma voiced that the demand for the rights of the community is not at all inducing any communal disharmony. Every community has the right to demand for their own legitimate rights.
General secretary Advocate Bernita R Marak of the ACHIK organisation gave a boost to the speech on rights by asking the crowd and participants that the rights that the organisation is demanding is not illegal or new but legitimate enshrined in the provisions during the creation of the state by the forefathers of Meghalaya. She informs the crowd that A·chik community needs to claim their own right which was there since the creation of the state.
Clarifying that the A·chik community would ask the government to stick to the High Court order of implementing Roster System at the cut off date of 1972.
Shri Laben Ch. Marak a former Meghalaya Civil Servant officer clarified on the etymology, history, types and the emergence of Roster sytem in Job Resrvation Policy.
The organisation also informs the crowd on the 12 points reason of implementing the Winter Capital in Garo Hills.
Other Speakers include, the President of GSU Eastern Zone and the leaders of each NGOs which took part in the Awareness Campaign and a rally for demand on Winter Capital.
