9 VPP candidates file nomination for KHADC polls

A total of nine candidates of the opposition Voice of the People Party (VPP) on Wednesday filed their nomination papers for the forthcoming elections to the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) to be held on February 21.
These include Aiandaplin Lyngdoh Nonglait from Mylliem, Eddieson Kharumnuid from Mawlai, Winston Tony Lyngdoh from Nongthymmai, Seiborlang Warbah from Mawkynrew, Danny Langstieh from Laban, Kitbor Syiem from Nongkrem, Denzil Chen from Jaiaw, Lancaster Marbaniang from Mawphlang and Strongpillar Kharjana from Mawkhar-Pynthor.
Speaking to reporters, VPP finance secretary Danny Langstieh said that the party will very shortly release its manifesto that will highlight the issues to be taken up during the upcoming ADC elections.
He said the party is confident it will win the elections.
“We are confident to win because we are contesting from the VPP, which people are looking up to (as an alternative),” Langstieh said.
Asked, the VPP leader said, “If we are elected to the district council, we will examine the various Acts and take necessary steps to amend if required.”
He also said that the party will also discuss the issue related to Article 371 and the Sixth Schedule to the constitution of India.
