16 wheelers turned turtle at Shillong city

Within days after the decision of letting heavy vehicles passed through Shillong city, one 16 wheelers carriage turned turtle at Mawblei under Madanrting Police Station near SBI Madanrting Branch on Friday’s night.

Due to weak and deteriorated condition of Dwar Ksuid, Umroi Bridge, and to avoid any untoward incident, all heavy loaded trucks and buses will ply through Shillong City from 29th October 2020 onwards until further orders. Only empty trucks and busses will be allowed to ply via Umroi Bridge.

Timing: Heavy vehicles will be allowed to ply through Shillong City after 9.00 PM till 5.00 AM next morning.

In this regard we would like to request all the commuters of East Khasi Hills District to strict follow traffic rules, cooperate and to drive safe, and be careful specially in the evening hours

The decision to let heavy vehicles passed through Shillong city reminded the people of Mawblei and adjoining areas of the traffic jams and accidents caused due to plying of trucks.

However, as the 16 wheelers turned turtle at the extreme end of the road there is no traffic jam so far.
