Sixteen people have been identified as high risk contacts of a senior doctor of the Shillong civil hospital, who was tested positive for COVID-19 recently.

The senior Anaesthesiologist at Shillong Civil Hospital had contracted the infection after treating a patient, who recently passed away at the North Eastern Indira Gandhi Regional Institute of Health & Medical Sciences (NEIGRIHMS).

“A total of 16 persons have been identified as high risk contacts of the senior doctor,” Director of Health Services (MI) Dr Aman War said while informing that the doctor is undergoing quarantine at the isolation ward of the hospital.

Asked, Dr War informed that over 600 of 800 staff of the civil hospital have been tested negative for COVID-19.

Meanwhile, the government has decided to restrict movement of visitors at the Shillong civil hospital for the next few days.

Dr War informed that the OPD of the hospital has been reopened after its temporary closure for sanitization.
