  • 15 shops reduce to ashes in Mawlai fire incident

    SHILLONG: As many as 15 shops were completely gutted while three vehicles were damaged in a major fire incident in the city on Sunday morning.

    According to police officials, the incident took place at around 2.30 am at Mawlai Stand Bus, Phudmuri.

    These (wooden) shops are owned by one Karamon Lyngdoh Nongbri who rented them to 15 persons engaged in selling meat, vegetables, groceries, and others.

    Her brother Dipshon Lyngdoh Nongbri said that the damaged caused by the fire is estimated to be around Rs 80-90 lakh.

    While the cause that led to the fire incident is yet to be ascertain but due to swift action of the fire service personnel with the help of local residents the fire was put to rest.

    Police however are still conducting an inquiry into the matter.

    The three vehicles damaged include a Mahindra pick up, Maruti and Truck carrying water which was parked near the shops.
