    The District Tuberculosis officer, West Jaintia Hills observed World Tuberculosis Day at District Library Auditorium today on the theme, “Yes! We can end TB” with Deputy Commissioner BS Sohliya, IAS as the Chief Guest.

    Deputy Commissioner B S Sohliya, expressed his appreciation to the doctors and their teams for their tireless effort in reducing the number of TB patients and working towards the elimination of TB in the District. He also acknowledged the dedication and hard work of healthcare professionals for providing health care, conducting research and implementing prevention programmes to combat TB. The Deputy Commissioner motivated individuals’ communities and stakeholders to work together towards achieving the goal.

    The Chief Guest also launched a music video dedicated to TB during the event, that conveys a message about TB awareness prevention and treatment. 

    Dr. Evalyneda B V Laloo, District Medical Health Officer Cum District Tuberculosis Officer & DACO and Dr. Dasngewhun Shadap, MOTC Jowia TU emphasized on the theme, “Yes! We can end TB” and the significance of World Tuberculosis Day.

    Dr. Evalyneda emphasized the importance of World Tuberculosis Day and discussed measures being implemented to eliminate TB. Stressing that TB is a preventable treatable disease, the doctor urged individuals to seek treatment promptly if diagnosed. The doctor underscores the role that each person’s plays in controlling and ultimately eliminating tuberculosis.

    Appreciation certificates and mementos were distributed by the chief guest and dignitaries to the individuals in recognition for their contribution in the fight against tuberculosis. The awards included TB Free Village Award, SNC certificate/ Mementos, Nikshay Mitra certificate, best treatment supporter, best lab Technicians, best performing ASHA. Media Engagement. 

    The Office had also organised sports competitions for the LP and UP students and prizes were distributed to the winners during the event today.   

    Earlier, the office started today’s programme with a rally participated by school students carrying placards with an awareness message about prevention of TB in the Society. The rally passed through Ladthadlaboh, Newhill, Iawmusiang, DC Office, Stand War and culminated at District Library Mynthong, Jowai.
