    An illegal coke plant was dismantled by the district administration of West Khasi Hills on Saturday.

    This came after five persons were recently arrested for running illegal coke plants in the district.

    These include Youdishtra Bhama, who is the son of Balwant Bharma, the owner of M/s Kalyani Fuel Limited, which is one of the illegal coke plants at Shallang.

    The other four arrested are Hopeful Nongtdu from Rymbai Synrang Shahkhain, East Jaintia Hills, Khrawbok Rongrin from Sohbar A, Shallang,  Ashish Arya from Basisthapur Bye-Lane, Guwahati, Kamrup and Yaman Bansal from Beltala Tiniali, Guwahati, Kamrup.

     Hopeful Nongtdu is the owner of  M/s HV Coke Limited and three arrested were from M/S Yash Coke Limited.

    The district administration had informed that there are over 61 coke plants at Shallang of which 4 have proper documents while the remaining are all illegal. 

    It said that all  illegal coke plants have been shut down and investigation to nab the owners is going on.
