JOWAI: The District Administration of the West Jaiñtia Hills has ordered enquiry into a video clipping showing a cabinet minister allegedly abusing his power during polling in one of the polling stations in the district.

In a video clipping that has gone viral in social media, Community & Rural Development Minister and Nartiang legislator Sniawbhalang Dhar was seen asking voters who are not in favour of his candidate to go away. “Don’t allow them. Those who are against (us) step aside,” Dhar said.

When contacted, deputy commissioner and district election officer (DEO) Garod LSN Dykes admitted that he has also received the video clipping from “unknown source”.

“I will issue an order directing enquiry into the video clipping tomorrow,” Dykes said while informing that information is also being collected from the zonal officials.

Asked, the deputy commissioner however said there has been no official complaint received so far on the matter.

To another query, Dykes said from the short video clipping, the polling station seems to be located under Thadlaskein Block.
