West Jaintia Hills truck crash kills two, including toddler

A tragic accident in West Jaintia Hills on the morning of August 21, 2025, claimed the lives of two people, including a two-year-old boy. A truck carrying clinkers (UP 76T 1960) lost control and toppled onto a Maruti Eeco (ML 04 E 0731) along NH-06 near Lad Mukhla, resulting in the fatalities.
Convince Susngi of Nangbah, who was driving the Maruti Eeco, was trapped under his vehicle, the clinkers, and the truck.
Rescue operations were challenging, requiring multiple recovery vans and JCBs. After nearly three hours, Susngi was extricated and rushed to Jowai Civil Hospital, Ialong, but was declared dead on arrival. A post-mortem is scheduled for the following day.
The two-year-old boy, carried by his mother Sooki Sari of Lad Mukhla, was also struck by the truck. Both were rushed to Dr Norman Tunnel Hospital, Jowai, but the child succumbed to his injuries. His mother remains in critical condition in the ICU.
The child’s body was handed over to the family after completion of the inquest and post-mortem.
The two other vehicles involved in minor collisions were a Maruti Alto (ML 04C 5529), a tourist vehicle, which was damaged while attempting to avoid the accident, and a private vehicle (ML 04 D 3446), which also sustained damage.
