One person was arrested for his alleged involvement in raping five minors including a 15 year-old-girl, who was kidnapped and rescued from Lumshnong village in East Jaintia Hills district.

A total number of five cases have been registered separately against Doubleme Rupsi of Bataw village (in East Jaintia Hills), West Jaintia Hills Superintendent of Police Lakador Syiem said in a statement on Monday.

He informed that a lady recently submitted a written complaint before the officer in-charge of 8th mile traffic cell that her 15-year-old daughter was lured and kidnaped from their locality in West Jaintia Hills on June 5, to Lumshnong village by Doubleme.

“The minor girl was successfully rescued from Lumshnong and the accused person has also been arrested and is now kept under judicial custody,” Syiem said.

A case has been registered under section 3(a)/4 of the POCSO Act and 363 IPC against the accused person.

The SP further informed that during an enquiry, it also came to light that the accused person was also married to one of the relatives of the victim girl.

“Subsequent interrogation and enquiry from relatives by DSP (crime) Cresency W Lyngdoh and women officers revealed that he had sexually assaulted other minor children from his immediate family,” he said.

In view of this, the SP said another four separate FIRs have been lodged against Doubleme for sexually assaulting four other minor girls under the age group of 9, 11, and 12 years respectively.

He said all the minor children have been medically examined and they have been forwarded to Child Welfare Committee for rending necessary assistance and psychological support to the children.
