    The Office of the District Legal Service Authority, West Jaintia Hills District in collaboration with the office of the Deputy Labour Commissioner and office of the BDO Thadlaskein C&RD Block Thadlaskein, West Jaintia today observed World Day Against Child Labour at the Office Hall of Thadlaskein C&RD Block, Thadlaskein, West Jaintia Hills District.

    At the awareness programme Secretary District Legal Services Authority B Majaw, MJS, discussed the scheme available for underprivileged children deprived of education due to financial constraints. Emphasizing the importance of protecting children’s rights, she urged parents to ensure that their children attend school and to visit the District Legal Service Authority at Khlihetyrshi for more information about the schemes available.

    Legal Aid counsel R Lyngdoh sensitized the public on Child Labour (Prohibition & Regulation) Act 1986” prohibiting the employment of children under the age of 14 in certain occupation and processes.

    Labour Inspector B Toi emphasised that the labour office plays a crucial role in overseeing and conducting inspections to prevent employment of children under 14 prioritising the safety and right of children.

    Violet Rose Talang, Junior Development Officer, Thadlaskein C&RD Block office, Thadlaskein was also present. The programme was chaired by SM Saioo, Legal Aid Counsel and D Rymbai, Staff DLSA proposed the vote of thanks.
