West Jaintia Hills marks 64th Teachers’ Day with honours for educators

The District School Education Officer, West Jaintia Hills, organised a Teachers’ Day celebration at the District Library Auditorium, Mynthong Jowai, on Friday, to honour educators for their contributions to society under the theme “A teacher affects eternity, they can never tell where their influence stops.”
Local MLA and MUDA Chairman Wailadmiki Shylla, who attended as Chief Guest, described teachers as true nation builders and mentors who prepare students to face life with confidence and responsibility. He lauded the district’s schools for ranking among the top in the state despite challenges and assured that the government is committed to strengthening education through school development, expansion of colleges, and new B.Ed. institutions.
Mementoes were presented to district awardees: Wompher Laloo (Seinraij Secondary School), Lalnunsiami Shylla (Jingshai Mihngi Adventist Secondary School), Sumarlang Pakma (PM Shri Tpep Pale Government LP School), Emidaka Lyngdoh (Guide Captain, Jowai Open Unit Guide Company), and Martin Pohplet (Scout Master, Amlarem Secondary School Scout Troop).
SDO (Sardar) Vevotolu Kezo, IAS, in her address, said classroom lessons may fade but the inspiration and confidence imparted by teachers last a lifetime. In Meghalaya, she added, teachers are not only educators but also community leaders, cultural custodians, and motivators.
The programme featured songs, dances, recitations, and a musical act by students from various schools in Jowai. Earlier, A. Kharpuri, I/C DSEO, welcomed the gathering, and C. Lyngdoh, I/C SDSEO, delivered the vote of thanks.
