The West Jaintia Hills District Magistrate has assured to maintain strict vigil in the district to ensure that no unscrupulous elements are able to engage in nefarious activities like illicit distribution of cash, gifts, liquor etc., to unduly induce and influence the electors for extracting political mileage in this JHADC’s Election.

This was informed by the District Magistrate in an order issued for promulgating Section 163 BNSS in District for forty-eight hours from 4.00 Pm of the 19th this month.

The order prohibited the assembly or movement of 5 (five) or more people in groups as well as convening, holding, attending, joining or addressing any public meeting or procession in connection with elections. Additionally, use of loud speakers for any election related activity during these 48 hours period is strictly prohibited.

Furthermore, political functionaries/party workers/campaign functionaries etc., who have been brought from outside the Constituency and who are not voters of the Constituency are instructed to leave the Constituency as their continued presence after campaign ends may undermine the atmosphere for free and fair polls.

Accommodation of outsiders in tents/ camps/ community halls, etc is strictly prohibited. However, the said restriction may not be insisted with respect to the office bearer of a political party who is in-charge of the district.

Additionally, all exit polls/opinion polls and the publication, publicity or dissemination of such polls in any manner whatsoever, in any print or electronic media, including social media is prohibited during this period.
