    West Jaintia Hills District Magistrate Garod LSN Dykes on Wednesday imposed Section 144 CrPC restrictions on the use of firecrackers on Diwali, Christmas and New Year in entire district..

    The order prohibited sale, purchase and procurement of foreign- made firecrackers, use of joined firecrackers (series crackers or laris) which cause huge air, noise and solid waste problems, use of firecrackers generating noise level exceeding 125 dB (A1) or 145 dB (C) pk at 4 meters distance from point of bursting.

    The District Magistrate strictly warned against bursting of firecrackers within 100 meters of Hospitals, Nursing Homes, Primary and District Health Care Centre, Educational Intuitions, Courts, Religious places or any other areas which may have been declared as Silent Zones by the concerned authorities.

    The Bursting of firecrackers is permitted only from 11.55 Pm to 12.30 Am on Diwali, Christmas and New Year.

    The sale of firecrackers shall only be through licensed traders and it shall be ensured these licensed traders sell only those firecrackers which have been permitted by the office of the Deputy Magistrate, West Jaintia Hills and are in compliance with Central Pollution Control Board guidelines.

    The order come into force with immediate effect and remain in force till the celebration of Diwali, Christmas and New Year is over.
