  • West Garo Hills courts convict 27 accused in crimes against women, children

    Accused persons in 27 cases relating to crime against women and children have been convicted during the year 2022 to 2025, West Garo Hills police today said.

    Accordingly, the accused persons have been sentenced by the district court under various sections of IPC and POCSO Act.

    Of the 27 cases, 5 were convicted in 2022, 4 in 2023, 11 in 2024 and 8 in 2025, they said.

    “The achievement reflects the continuous commitment, sincerity and professional dedication of the investigating officers of West Garo Hills district in ensuring that justice is delivererd to the victims of crime and  that offenders are brought before the law,” district police chief AT Sangma said on Thursday.

    “It also underlines the continuous efforts of the West Garo Hills district police in strengthening the criminal justice system through quality investigation and effective/meticulous follow up during trial,” he added.
