The people of Elaka Sutnga on Thursday warned to dump the dumpers with garbage in the coal pit if the Jowai Municipal Board dare to goes against their will.

In their Facebook posting, the Ecc Elaka Sutnga objected to the move of the Meghalaya government to un-scientifically dispose of the JMB’s garbage in a coal pit located at their Elaka.

“Private land or not we won’t allow anyone to come and make our Elaka a garbage dumping site,”they said.

The JMB have tried this last year too when a coal mine owner allowed JMB to dispose garbage at his private coal mine in this same area, but upon learning about this the local residents intervened, by the time they reached the site they have already disposed of 2 dumper of garbage. They made sure the dumped garbage is taken back to where they came from and gave them a warning to never come again.

“So this time if the dumpers carrying garbage dares to come again we will dump the dumpers along with the garbage in that coal pit,” a loud and clear message from the Elaka.

They reasoned when the people of Jowai and the neighbouring villages in West Jaintia are not allowing the JMB to dispose their own garbage then why should they in East Jaintia allow it?

As it Elaka’s air is polluted with toxic smoke from the coke plant emissions, they won’t allow our soil and underground water to get polluted too.
