VPP asks KHADC to seek explanation on the Law Adong in Mawpat

The Voice of People’s Party (VPP) has asked the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) to seek an explanation from the Syiem of Hima Mylliem regarding the Law Adong in Mawpat.
In a letter to the KHADC chief S Rynjah on Wednesday, the VPP informed that team led by VPP President Ardent Miller Basaiawmoit conducted an inspection of the Law Adong on July 15 and found several irregularities, including the alleged sale of land to private individuals and public representatives.
The team was also surprised to find that the foundation stone erected as part of the agreement between Hima Mylliem and KHADC had gone missing.
The VPP expressed concerns over the environmental impact of the alleged activities, including the felling of trees and the construction of roads through the forest.
It alleged that land was allotted to the PHE department and for constructin of a road leading to the New Shillong.
“We therefore seek clarification if the KHADC is aware of all these things happening in the Law Adong. If not, we urge you to seek an explanation from the Syiem of Hima Mylliem on the matter in order to protect and preserve the Law Adong,” the party stated in the letter.
The party further emphasized the need to protect the Law Adong and Law Kyntang in the state.
