VKSA Day 12: KVKs reach nearly 7,000 farmers across Meghalaya

Krishi Vigyan Kendras (KVKs) across Meghalaya carried out a large-scale outreach under the Viksit Krishi Sankalp Abhiyan (VKSA), reaching 6,953 farmers in 63 villages across 14 blocks. Held on June 12, the Day 12 programme was supported by KVK experts, scientists, and state officials, with the objective of promoting scientific farming practices and sustainable agriculture.
Farmers participated in awareness sessions covering advanced crop production, organic farming, mushroom cultivation, livestock health and vaccination, soil testing, and integrated pest and disease management. Technical discussions also highlighted integrated farming systems, natural and balanced fertiliser use, smart farming tools, kitchen gardening, vermicomposting, climate-resilient crop varieties, and rainwater harvesting methods like Jalkund.
Live demonstrations showcased locally suitable technologies. Farmers received extension literature on organic practices, improved crop varieties, composting techniques, citrus rejuvenation, turmeric slicing tools, and livestock and fish rearing methods.
They were also briefed on various Central and State government schemes including PM-KISAN, Soil Health Card, PMFME, PKVY, PMKSY, NFSM, crop insurance, and development programmes for fruits, vegetables, spices, and livestock. To support Kharif season activities, seeds of rice, millets, vegetables, and arecanut saplings were distributed.
