SHILLONG: A villager was critically injured after a group of Bangladeshi nationals attacked him and his friends on Sunday afternoon.

The incident took place at Pyrkan under Shella village along the international border in East Khasi Hills District.

Denglang Diengdoh and his friends had gone to Pyrkan, about 3-4 kilometres away from the border, for picnicking, Secretary of Shella village, Roykupar Synrem said.

However on seeing a group of 6 Bangladeshi nationals who were illegally crossing over to Shella, Diengdoh and his friends went to meet them to ask where are they going.

“But the Bangladeshi nationals who were armed with sharp weapons start attacking the villagers. In the incident, Diengdoh received deep cuts from his back and his head,” Synrem said.

He informed that Diengdoh was rushed to a local health centre and from there was immediately referred to Shillong Civil Hospital for better medical treatment.

An FIR has been filed with the Shella police station.

Earlier, Bangladeshi criminals have made similar attacks on villagers in West Jaintia Hills District.

A Border Security Force (BSF) personnel and a civilian were injured after they were attacked by a group of Bangladeshi dacoits in Dawki area on January 8.

On January 4, two persons from Lamin village were also critically injured after they were attacked by Bangladeshi robbers along the Dawki-Nongtalang road.
