Veteran editor PJ Baruah joins RGU to shape next-gen journalists

In a major boost to media education in Northeast India, veteran journalist Prasanta Jyoti Baruah has joined Assam Royal Global University (RGU) as a distinguished professor at the Royal School of Communication and Media.
Baruah, who served for decades as executive editor of The Assam Tribune, is widely respected for his deep-rooted contributions to journalism in the region. He officially assumed his new role at RGU on Tuesday.
Speaking at the occasion, Baruah outlined his vision for aligning journalism education with the fast-changing media landscape. “I look forward to contributing to the growth of the Royal School of Communication and Media by aligning journalism education with the evolving trends and challenges in the media industry,” he said.
He underscored the need to uphold journalistic ethics amid rising misinformation, while also preparing students with advanced digital skills and newsroom readiness. “My goal is to make our students industry-ready, ensuring they meet the dynamic demands of the media world,” Baruah added.
Expressing gratitude to RGU for the opportunity, Baruah reaffirmed his commitment to raising academic standards and fostering excellence in the next generation of media professionals.
