VDPs trained on court procedures at awareness programme in Jowai

The District Legal Services Authority (DLSA), West Jaintia Hills, in collaboration with the Office of the Superintendent of Police, organised a Sensitisation Programme on Court Procedures for Village Defence Party (VDP) members at the SP Conference Hall, Jowai, on August 29.
The programme aimed to strengthen VDP members’ understanding of legal procedures and their role in supporting law enforcement.
Resource person D. Langbang, Additional Public Prosecutor, outlined the responsibilities of VDPs and explained basic court procedures. R. Pde, Community Liaison Officer (COVDO), highlighted the vital role of VDPs in fostering cooperation between the community and the police.
Inspector S. Manner, Reserve Inspector, Jowai Police Reserve, explained procedures related to First Information Reports (FIRs) and charge sheets in criminal cases.
The session was hosted by S.M. Saioo, Assistant Legal Aid Defence Counsel, while B. Saioo, Advocate of the Jaintia Hills Bar Association, delivered the vote of thanks.
The initiative reflects DLSA’s commitment to legal awareness and strengthening community policing.
