The University of Science and Technology Meghalaya (USTM), in collaboration with Nikon India, marked World Photography Day with a lively Landscape Photography and Reel Making Competition, drawing budding photographers and storytellers to showcase their creativity.

The celebration began in the morning as students explored the lush USTM campus under drizzles, capturing fleeting natural scenes that blended technical skill with artistic vision.

The formal programme opened at 2 p.m. at the NKC Auditorium with a welcome address and guest felicitation. The highlight was a keynote speech by Tarun Siwach, Senior Manager–Technical, Nikon India, who shared insights into the evolving landscape of photography.

A panel discussion titled “Framing the Truth” followed, featuring journalist Pankaj Saikia, who spoke on “The Power of Photography.” He emphasized that photography is not just about moments but about storytelling, emotion, and memory—capable of inspiring empathy and change. Industry experts Partha Sarthi Baruah and Neeraj Phukan also shared their experiences, motivating participants with their passion and knowledge.

The day concluded with a prize distribution ceremony, where winners received cash awards for outstanding photography and reels.

USTM reaffirmed its commitment to fostering creativity and innovation beyond classrooms. With its NAAC ‘A’ Grade accreditation and placement in the 151–200 band of NIRF India Rankings 2024, the university continues to provide platforms for students to excel in diverse fields.
