The University of Science and Technology Meghalaya (USTM) conducted a two-day hands-on training workshop on Spinal Manual Therapy from March 27-28, aimed at equipping physiotherapy students and professionals with advanced clinical skills. The event, organized by the Department of Physiotherapy, USTM, featured renowned expert Dr. Satyen Bhattacharya, Associate Professor at Burdwan Institute of Medical and Life Sciences, West Bengal, as the lead resource person.

The workshop was inaugurated by USTM Vice Chancellor, Prof. G. D. Sharma, who emphasized the critical role of hands-on training in enhancing patient care and rehabilitation outcomes. Addressing the participants, he highlighted the importance of manual therapy techniques in modern physiotherapy and encouraged professionals to adopt evidence-based practices.

Dr. Satyen Bhattacharya provided in-depth training on various spinal manual therapy techniques, equipping attendees with practical skills essential for diagnosing and treating spinal conditions. Participants engaged in interactive sessions covering key approaches such as the Maitland Technique focusing on graded mobilization for pain relief, mulligan Concept – combining passive movement with active patient participation and the McKenzie Method – emphasizing self-treatment and posture correction.

The event also included live demonstrations, case discussions, and hands-on applications, ensuring that participants gained real-world clinical exposure to manual therapy techniques.

The closing session featured a valedictory ceremony and certificate distribution, recognizing the dedication of participants and the contributions of the expert faculty. Dr. Pooja Chaudhuri, Head of the Department of Physiotherapy, USTM, delivered a vote of thanks, applauding the enthusiasm of students and professionals who took part in the intensive training.

By integrating advanced physiotherapy techniques with practical skill development, USTM’s initiative marks a significant step in enhancing the professional expertise of physiotherapists. The workshop underscores the university’s commitment to fostering high-quality medical education and equipping future healthcare professionals with cutting-edge therapeutic skills.
