    Hill Crest School Rynjah programmed organized an inauguration ceremony of the 2nd Batch of students from the English Access Micro-scholarship Programme on August 17 at Jawaharlal Nehru Park, Umiam.

    The English Access Micro-scholarship programme sponsored by the US Department of State was first introduced in October 2018 at Hill Crest School in Shillong in collaboration with Sishu Sarothi Guwahati. A total of 58 students from both the centres graduated from the programme in April and May, 2021.

    This Access programme provides a foundation of English Language skills to economically disadvantage adolecence children between the ages of 13 to 20, in their home countries. The Access program provides a platform for the children to improve their spoken English Language skills. The programme also provides a platform where participants are given learning opportunities and personal skill development such as Speaking Skills, Building Confidence, Leadership skills that may lead to better jobs and educational prospects. Participants also gain the ability and opportunity to compete and participate in future exchanges and study in United States.

    To mark the occasion students conducted the programme and took part in various activities embracing diversity and culture; students performed a fusion cross – cultured dance, songs and story – telling through poetry at the picture square setting at the Umiam lake.

    The classes for the 2nd batch were rolled out in June, with around 30 students from Hill Crest and Little Angels, a neighbourhood school.

    The transformation visible at the end of the program was exemplified by the eloquent and confident presentation of the alumns and their interactions with the guests. The diverse skills that the children have acquired throughout the 2 years have really built up their personality and boosted their self – confidence, “Said A. L.     Adrian Pratt, The Director of the American Centre Kolkatta and Public Affairs Officer, US Consulate General Kolkatta who graced the occasion as the Chief guest expressed his appreciation of the children’s effort and creativity in putting up a dynamic performance inspite of being very new to the program. He also acknowledged the Alumini’s active participation and effort even during the pandemic by contributing in various creative activities and public awareness campaigns.

    Accompanied by Margaret MacLeod, Public Diplomary Officer US Embassy New Delhi, Sohini Das, Public Engagement Lead, Sameek Ghosh – Head of Communication and Media and Aishwaraya Mandal, English Language and Education Program Manager US Consulate Kolkatta.

      Congratulations to Hill Crest school and Little Angels. It’s a wonderful opportunity to have got. The Good Samaritans need to be applauded and appreciated. I salute the kindness bestowed on the young students. I do believe they in turn will give back to society. 👍👏
