Union Minister of Social Justice and Empowerment, Virendra Kumar, visited the Samelangso Aspirational Block in Karbi Anglong on November 17 as part of his three-day tour to the hill district.

Accompanied by MP Amarsing Tisso, the Karbi Anglong District Commissioner, and members of the Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC), the minister engaged with various communities and reviewed development projects.

At Longtu Rongphar village, Kumar attended a meeting where he praised the cultural richness of the Karbi community, particularly the traditional weaving skills of Karbi women.

Kumar later conducted house-to-house visits, inspecting housing under the Pradhan Mantri Gramin Awas Yojana (PMGAY) and water supply facilities developed through the Jal Jeevan Mission.

In the evening, the minister visited Howraghat, where he assessed healthcare services at the Howraghat Community Health Centre, interacted with patients, and reviewed its operations. Additionally, he visited paddy fields near Diphu to hear directly from farmers about challenges related to road infrastructure and water supply.

The day concluded with a public interaction at Diphu Town Hall, where Kumar engaged with diverse groups, including women, children, persons with disabilities, the transgender community, and social organizations. Discussions centred on issues like combating drug addiction and enhancing grassroots development. His visit emphasized a hands-on approach to understanding and addressing local challenges while promoting sustainable development in the region.
