The non construction of the Mawhati-Jagiroad during the past four years has compelled sitting MLA of Mawhati Constituency Dasakhiatbha Lamare to change his place of contesting from Mawhati Constituency to Nongkrem Constituency.

However, in face saving exercise for the party and its candidate Shemphang Lyngdoh substituting Lamare, the NPP led MDA govt decided to construct the Mawhati Jagiroad in the fag end of the present MLA tenure.

Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma laid foundation stone for the construction of Umsning-Mawhati to Jagiroad on Wednesday.

Sangma informed the trategic road that was left neglected for the past 40 years that will be upgraded under the Meghalaya Integrated Transport Project (MITP) funded by World Bank India at a cost of Rs 83.38 Crores

The blacktopping of this road was undertaken during Late P A Sangma’s tenure as Chief Minister.

Sangma said, “I’m glad to take this project up during my tenure & to complete what he started.”

Sangma said the NPP-led MDA Govt. has taken the road less traveled with assignments & issues that no Govt. has dared taken.

The govt keep the people’s interest first & they will continue to do so to serve them.
