The United Democratic Party (UDP) would soon take a call on the upcoming bye elections to the two Assembly seats – Mawryngkneng and Rajabala.

“We will be sitting next week to initiate discussion on the matter,” UDP chief Metbah Lyngdoh told reporters on Thursday.

The bye elections are necessitated following the death of Mawryngkneng MLA (L) David A Nongrum and Rajabala MLA (L) Dr Azad Zaman.

Asked on the poor performance of the party in the just concluded GHADC polls, Lyngdoh however said, “That (result) will give us more courage and more desire to fight in the upcoming election as the vote share of the party has gone up tremendously.”

He said the party was able to get good candidates within a short span of time before the election.

“However, we could not get a single seat but it doesn’t matter, we will again fight and in the coming election we are sure that we will win in the future,” Lyngdoh added.
