The United Democratic Party (UDP) will soon elect its new general secretary following the resignation of former Nongthymmai legislator Jemino Mawthoh.

According to UDP chief Metbah Lyngdoh, the central executive committee (CEC) will be held tentatively within this month or first week of July.

“We have accepted the resignation of Jemino Mawthoh. The next CEC will sit and discuss the need to elect the new general secretary of the party,” Lyngdoh told reporters.

The UDP chief said that the next CEC is proposed to be held this month. “But if not, perhaps in the first week of July. We are not in no hurry but as a party we should have a general secretary,” he added.

Lyngdoh also claimed that his party is growing from strength to strength and this was witnessed from Assembly election to another.

“We are growing no doubt and we are working in that same line and we will continue to work,” he said.
