UDP to declare lists of candidates for MP, MDC elections in a month’s time

UDP leader and cabinet minister Paul Lyngdoh on Friday said the process of identifying the Lok Sabha candidates will be completed within a month’s time.
Speaking to reporters, Lyngdoh said, “As far as the UDP is concerned, we have already gone ahead with the process of identifying our candidate and the process should be through in the next one month or even less than that.”
He said that the former Hynniewtrep Youth Council (HYC) president Robertjune Kharjahrin is one of the individuals, who have expressed interest in contesting from the Shillong parliamentary seat.
“As we speak there are 3-4 contenders (for the ticket) and I think it should be ready by a couple of weeks from today,” he added.
He said the preparation for the MDC elections is going on in full swing. The state election committee has already met a couple of times. “We should be in a position to at least have a preliminary list of candidates ready by January end.”
