UDP ridicules opp demand for Dhar’s stepping down based on HNLC’s allegation

United Democratic Party (UDP) leader Titosstarwell Chyne on Wednesday ridiculed the recent demand of the opposition for ousting the deputy chief minister in-charge urban affairs Sniawbhalang Dhar based on an allegation made by the banned Hynniewtrep National Liberation Council (HNLC).
Speaking to reporters, Chyne said, “According to me, allegations can be made by anybody and against anybody but proof should be there. If you make an allegation, you should also have the proof.”
The HNLC in its statement issued on May 4, accused Dhar of funding the outfit when he was serving as a minister in the then Congress-led state government. Based on this, opposition parties like the Voice of the People Party (VPP) and Congress have immediately demanded Dhar to step down as deputy chief minister to pave way for investigation into the allegation.
Asked, the UDP leader said, “Let the law take its own course to prove whether it is a fact or not. That it depends on the government to decide whether the case is serious or not but to me it seems there is no seriousness (in the allegation).”
“That’s why I am telling you that if the case is so serious then let us discuss but it seems that the case is not so serious so why should we discuss it,” he added.
