UDP leaves decision on new GS to president: Shylla

UDP leader and cabinet minister Kyrmen Shylla stated that the party has given authority to its president, Metbah Lyngdoh, to decide on the new general secretary.
“In our last meeting, we have given authority to the president to take a call and fill up this vacancy as early as possible,” Shylla told reporters.
The president will convene a meeting to take a final call on the issue once he is back in station.
The post of general secretary fell vacant after Jemino Mawthoh’s resignation.

Shylla expressed concern over Mawthoh’s sudden exit, appreciating his contributions to the party’s growth.
Shylla believes good things will happen in the coming days and expressed commitment to work hard. When asked if only elected representatives can take over as GS, Shylla said, “There is no such thing in our constitution as anybody can take over as new GS.”
When asked if he is ready to take over as new GS, Shylla said, “The party will decide. We are here to serve. It doesn’t matter whether I am GS or not. Whatever position we hold, we will work for the party.”
